Interview

PA ~ When did you take up your artistry and how long have you been involved with it?

DM - I started in music in 1965, in Buffalo N.Y.

PA ~ Musically, how would you describe your sound/genre?

DM - I am a dedicated rocker. Handclappin’/footstompin let you know I am here…MUSIC !!!!

PA ~ What gravitated you toward your artistic work?

DM - My mother was chief film editor for MGM and my father owned the Orpheum Theater. So I saw a lot of musical, dance and comic acts. I was thirteen when I bought my first guitar and The Beach Boys had just released California Girls. The vocals were just amazing !

PA ~ Who are your influenced by?

DM – Neil Young, Paul Rogers(Bad Co.), Eric Clapton, The Beatles, Beach Boys.
Powerful vocals and guitar.

PA ~ I understand you have a CD ERUPTS, what is the listener in store for?

DM – My CD Dave Magmaa “ERUPTS”, will take you over. Bold guitar and strong vocals. You just won’t be able to sit there. Some part of your body will move to the flow. It’s just good music.

PA ~ How is the CD being received?

DM – I have over 350 submissions to internet radio companies. So far I have one radio station playing my CD “ERUPTS”  worldwide, Fredio.com. I would say it is very positive.

PA ~ Do you have a favorite composition on the CD?

DM – Actually I have two, Heather (To my daughter) and Ghost Dancer !

PA ~ Will you be touring to promote ERUPTS?

DM – Right now I have no short range plans to tour as I am going back into the studio to begin work on my new CD “Magmaa come Loudaa”. This CD will be a solid rocker. I want to finish by late Nov.

PA ~ Any other projects or followups in the works presently?

DM – I want to do a DVD based on my song Ghost Dancer. This is a ghost story that will ask the question “Do you believe in ghost’s” ?

PA ~ Do you perform solo or normally with a group?

DM – Solo. I have all my music pre-recorded. I leave room for my vocals, guitars , Q-chord and percussion. When you hear me live you WILL think that there are several musicians on stage. In reality - only Dave Magmaa. I present my show in LIVE stereo so you not only hear the sound you feel it !

PA ~ Any performances coming up you’d like to plug?

DM – Not at this time. I am going back to work in my studio.

PA ~ What would someone expect attending one of your shows?

DM – A night of entertainment. My show is titled “Dance the night away”.

PA ~ Do you perform outside of your hometown?

DM – I was on the road in the 70’s, 80’s and early 90’s. It was exciting and exhaustive. I do plan within the next year to tour. But immediately it’s back in the studio.

PA ~ During your artistic journey so far, any interesting (funny, bizarre, highlight, nightmare etc...) stories come to mind you’d like to share with us?

DM – I have one. The hurricanes of 2004 (I live in Jupiter, Florida). It was 12:27 AM on October 7 when hurricane Jeanne hit us. I was in my bedroom with no electric and just some candles. When I heard a loud thump on the west side of the house. It turned out that a tornado spawned by the storm had taken part of my roof off and at that time looking skyward, with no roof, the eye of the hurricane was passing over. I went back to my bedroom and wrote ‘HURRICANE’ for my CD ERUPTS.

PA ~ Give us your thoughts on the indie music scene good and not so
good.

DM – This is the best thing that could happen to an artist. You keep control of your music and the creativity. You set your own schedules. You choose the time and the place for your music.

PA ~ How is the artistic scene where you live evolving?

DM – Almost non-existent. I live in a seasonal area. So the talent is imported. I on the other hand, am… homegrown;  So for now I am one of just a few artist’s in this area.

PA ~ What has the highlight of your career been?

DM – I am still waiting, just joking. Two so far. The first was on a compilation disc that was presented in Germany in December 2005 (She’s so hot - was the single). The second is my CD “ERUPTS” being played on Fredio.com radio worldwide I mean all over the globe. Wow !

PA ~ What are some goals you hope to accomplish in the future?

DM – I want to be successful in writing and shaping my music. To be asked for advice. To tutor young musicians and bring out all their creativity. To become a better person. To learn and appreciate from other musicians the gift of music.

PA ~ What are your other interests outside of your music?

DM – The humane treatment of all God’s creatures.

PA ~ What was the best piece of advice you ever heard that motivates you in pursuit of your artistry?

DM – “there is always someone out there working harder than you!”

PA ~ Where can someone find out more about Dave Magmaa?

DM – My website: www.Greatmagma.com. www.MusicSUBMIT.com. www.MySpace.com/davemagmaa.
